The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,682 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, the highest single-day number since early May.
It’s the fourth time the state has surpassed 2,000 daily cases in the past week, with the seven-day average for new daily cases at nearly 2,059.
Tuesday’s reported cases are the highest since 3,321 were reported on May 7.
The total number of COVID-19 cases is 1,427,901. Eight more deaths were reported Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 23,458.
As of Monday, 1,107 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, the first time that number has surpassed 1,000 since June 1.
The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 4.4 percent. The seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 5 percent.
Seventy-three percent of eligible Illinoisans ages 12 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 56.8 percent are fully vaccinated.
Illinois vaccinators have administered 13,310,174 COVID-19 vaccines, per state data. The seven-day average of doses administered is 28,250.
